Guitar Quartet
Ciclo is written for string quartet: in this piece, I seek to express a personal experience through the sounds of the guitar—a moment from a few years ago when my father was on the brink of losing his life. He was admitted to the hospital due to a stomach issue, and because of medical negligence, his life was nearly lost. In this three-movement piece, I attempt to convey the anguish that my father and our family went through. The piece unfolds as follows:
I. Occlusion
In this movement, I use external sounds from the guitar—tapping on its body, scratching the strings with a coin, rubbing the hand along them. Through these noises, I explore sounds that evoke the sensation of pain.
II. Intensive Care
This movement is centered around the complete exploration of guitar harmonics, narrating the 21-day period my father spent in intensive care.
III. Rebirth
The final movement is rhythmic with dark harmonies, expressing the recovery process after waking up from those 21 days—a journey that, for him, was the most challenging.
