Fluxions, as defined by Newton, refer to the concept of instantaneous velocity of a moving body. It involves finding the speed of a body at a given moment based on the length of the space it occupies, essentially the inverse problem of determining the derivatives of the body's motion. This method was used to measure the velocity of bodies by calculating indivisible fragments of time, which led Newton to contemplate the relationship between time and distance.
In the same way, I believe that music can be measured through time and distance. In this piece, I explore this idea by deriving various time signatures and textures, which represent the distances and lengths within a given space. Each character, melody, motif, and texture embodies a flow of energy across both time and space.
